Julia Wilson: Founder and owner of Cat-World
Julia grew up in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and has been an animal lover her entire life. As a child, Julia shared her home with two tabby domestic shorthairs followed by two Siamese cats.
Julia came to Australia in 1988 on a working holiday, met and married an Australian. She currently lives south of Sydney with her husband, two children, two dogs and four cats.
Julia has always had a passion for science, medicine in particular. As a child, she wanted to become a veterinarian and still remembers receiving a copy of Black’s Veterinary Dictionary for her tenth birthday. That dream sadly didn’t come to fruition as Julia realised she didn’t have the stomach for surgery, abuse or trauma cases. Her love of medicine continues to this day with a strong interest in infectious diseases, ophthalmology, endocrinology, and parasites.
Cat-World was founded by Julia in 2002 to provide accurate and easy to understand content for cat-lovers. Before Cat-World, Julia was an active contributor on the now-defunct Acme Pet Site before becoming a moderator and contributor for Cats of Australia.
The information provided on Cat-World comes from 20 plus years of experience as a cat writer, veterinary books, veterinary specialists, veterinary publications, universities and research papers. Julia will always cite her sources so that readers can verify the accuracy of the content and where it came from. In addition, Julia has teamed up with Dr. Sam Kovac BVSc (Merit) of Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic who is medically reviewing the content on Cat-World to ensure it is accurate. All articles which have been reviewed by Dr Kovac will be marked as such.
Julia’s hobbies include photography (macro and nature in particular), gardening and walking or running on the trails with her stumpy tail cattle dog, Hobo.
